K&N’s RK Series Filter Kit gets the job done. The guys at Drag Specialties took a showroom-stock ‘07 FLHX and put it on the dyno, base lining the horsepower and torque at 63.87 and 78.43, respectively. Then a K&N RK Series Filter Kit went on. Next dyno pull: a gain of 6.07 horsepower and an additional 3.81 ft./lbs. of torque. There was nothing else done whatsoever, the ‘07 Harley’s computer and pair of O2 sensors nicely compensated for the additional airflow. Not a bad return for a half-hour’s effort to replace an air filter and backing plate.
K&N’s RK Series Filter Kit is that good, and it’s that quick and easy to install. Everything needed is included in the box, everything fits and works together, and nothing is mismatched. There’s a choice of K&N High-Flow filter elements–either 1 5/8-in. thick (RK-3909 Kit) or the new, large-capacity 2 1/4-in. thick filter element (RK-3910 Kit), there’s a matching free-flow backing plate constructed entirely of powder-coated billet aluminum with a breather kit to go with it, there’s a snap-in velocity stack that’s part of the design and everything fits right under the stock Harley-Davidson filter cover. RK Series Filter Kits are available for all ‘99 through ‘07 Twin Cam bikes, carbureted or with Delphi fuel injection. And by the way, that Drag Specialties dyno test used the smaller 1 5/8-inch filter kit. And yes, K&N has a retro-fit package available (RT-3910) to slip that new, bigger 2 1/4-inch filter element along with longer spacers into your customer’s existing, already installed RK Filter Kit. And there are plenty of them out there. The K&N Filter Kit, understandably, is a hot seller. You just don’t find this kind of easily obtained performance every day.
If there’s a company that knows how to maximize airflow to build power it’s K&N. The K&N High Flow air filter has been the industry standard for over 35 years now. New filters and intake kits are constantly being developed and new applications are introduced each season. K&N filters are periodically tested by independent labs, too, using Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standards. A K&N will be the last filter a rider buys; properly cleaned and maintained with a K&N Service Kit it’ll last the life of the bike. There’s a Million Mile Limited Warranty attesting to that. These filters are unlike any others. They use multiple sheets of pleated and oiled premium cotton gauze as the filtering medium, layering it between two sheets of epoxy coated aluminum wire mesh which actually straightens out and improves the airflow. The result is an air filter that dramatically improves performance while protecting the engine. Very hard to beat.
Harder still when the whole high-flow air-filter package–filter element, backing plate, breathers and velocity stack–are all coming complete from K&N. Drag Specialties carries the kits with both size filters and also has those retro-fit packages to slip the new 2 1/4-inch element into an already-mounted kit. It’s all available right now so check with your Drag Specialties rep today.
For an easy power boost, try K&N’s RK Series Filter Kit. The kit comes complete with the filter element, backing plate, breather kit and velocity stack for quick and simple installation. That’s a package that’s hard to beat!
